ARF-MC – The Life Performance Model
Remember that acronym! It sounds a bit silly, but this information is 20 years in the making. I challenge anyone to oppose it. Think of all the great accomplishments you’ve had and you’ll find this pattern in all of them! Guaranteed!
1. Behavior
Your body reflects your attitude. Every unwanted pound is an unwanted thought that you need to shed. Think you’re skinny and you will be. Love your body and you will attract more people, places and things that will make you love your body more, such as health, wealth and healthy people. If you are disgusted with your body, you will attract people, places, and things that will help support that thought, such as illness, poverty, and people in poor health.
A healthy attitude is what leads to a successful training program; not the training program itself!
Just as a growing flower reflects what is nurtured at its roots, your body reflects your attitude. Right now your body is the sum total of all the thoughts and decisions you have made so far. If you are anxious and worried, your body reflects an anxious and worried attitude. It is impossible that the attitude cannot change without the body following. Therefore, your mental view of your life must be the first thing to change; not your cardio program!
2.Recovery
If your body is too tired, it cannot function at its peak. Massage therapy is a global treatment that harmonizes the whole body. It can help treat chronic headaches, spinal and nerve problems, premenstrual syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, and countless other symptoms of illness. Hydrotherapy is one of the fastest ways to recover. The jacuzzi, pool and ice are all examples of hydrotherapy. They are one of the most used components in rehabilitation centers. Our body is made up of 75% water; it is therefore not surprising that water is our main source of energy. Myofacial therapy is a technique designed to remove all knots from the muscles to help postural deviations and overall body movement. If you’re injured, you’re out of the game. Recovery helps prevent injuries.
When you train your body too hard without allowing enough time to recover, it will rebel against you with injury and mental exhaustion. The recovery component is the most watched component of the entire training. The old school train of thought is without pain or gain. But the new school train of thought is that more pain equals more pain! Don’t let pride get in the way of your results. Listen to your body and strategically plan your training schedule with your days off planned in advance. You also want to plan how you take some of those days off. Whether it’s a dip in the sea water that does your body good or a massage, get your body back! It will thank you with results.
3. Fuel
Water content regulates all body functions. Shortages of this natural body lubricant will manifest various symptoms, signals and complications that are now referred to as illnesses. It is the natural health medicine for a variety of health conditions such as: arthritis pain, low back pain, headaches, constipation, asthma and allergies. It is also ideal for losing weight. Many people overeat because they are unknowingly trying to quench their thirst.
A lot of times people get tired and tear their muscles and the first thing they think about is that they haven’t stretched enough. However, the body can signal dryness in certain areas by causing different pains and injuries in certain areas of the body. Back pain, arthritis pain, and headaches are just some of the symptoms of dehydration.
It’s rare for a doctor to question your hydration while walking complaining of joint pain. They say rest, ice and buy their medicine which is pushed by a high power pharmaceutical company. They don’t question the quality of your body’s hydration; they treat the symptom of dehydration. Over time, this symptom turns into something else for which more drugs or surgery are prescribed. The medical industry is taking advantage of our body’s thirst for water and we don’t even know it. Think of your body as a car. If a car ran out of oil, it would slowly break down the engine or some other area that needed lubrication. Our body is the same way.
The less water you drink, the more painful your joints will be. So when your body hurts, don’t take a pill, take water instead. You want to drink at least half your body weight in ounces. For example, I weigh 225 pounds, so I want to drink at least 113 ounces of water a day or just under a gallon. We can’t make do with the traditional 8 cups a day because not everyone is the same size. A college offensive lineman can’t drink the same amount of water as a 125-pound woman!
Food keeps your metabolism burning throughout the day. Think of your metabolism as a log fire. The fire will burn fastest and hottest when you feed it small pieces of wood throughout the day. It will burn slowly if you put in a huge piece of wood once or twice a day. The goal is to eat five or six times a day and keep your fire burning fast. 75% of your success will be determined by your thoroughness with the food diary. It may take a few weeks to adjust to eating periodically throughout the day; especially if you’ve only been eating 1-2 times a day for 10-20 years. Be patient with yourself and know that you will make mistakes because you are human.
Much of the food we eat is laced with pesticides, chemicals and hormones that affect your mind like any other drug. A fruit and a vegetable are, in essence, a sponge that picks up all the nutrients or chemicals from the soil. No wonder we have a society with unexplained pain and disease. Our animals are full of hormones that affect our bodies when we eat them. The best way to do this is to eat all organic fruits and vegetables and cage-free and hormone-free animal products. It will definitely have an effect on your mind and body. More importantly, it will improve your performance in life.
Multivitamins are designed to provide you with all the nutrients that your regular diet does not contain. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll have the perfect diet in a condensed time, cellphone, and internet society and not need a multivitamin. A multivitamin contains as many nutrients as 5000 calories of food!
4. Movement
Power is a combination of strength, agility and speed. You want to be strong, fast and agile, whether you’re a professional athlete or a queen of the box. The weaker, slower and more uncoordinated you are, the faster your body ages and the more deformed you look! Men have crossed the Atlantic Ocean and died trying to find the Fountain of Youth; but you can create the best possible machine by training for a powerful body. Your abilities depend on your lifestyle and time constraints. The human body is the best machine ever designed. The earth does not do the same thing every day. The weather isn’t sunny every day and it doesn’t rain every day either. Your workouts should reflect life. You can run, walk, swim, cycle, lift weights, do Pilates or yoga. Do something !
Medium-to-high intensity cardio burns more calories than old-school low-intensity cardio. Medium to high intensity cardio has an afterburn that lasts much longer than low intensity cardio. Lifting weights is even more beneficial as it helps keep metabolism higher in the body for 2-3 days. Cardio burns your muscles, so you can’t just do cardio. The post burn of the weights lasts for days instead of just a few hours with cardio. We aim to do higher intensity workouts to create more afterburn and to keep the mental and physical aspects of our challenge training going. Sprinting helps the body release human growth hormone which greatly helps in adding muscle and speeding up metabolism. It also prepares for emergencies that occur in life. We will not always be able to walk at our own pace; sometimes you may have to run across a street for your dog, your child, or your life!
5. Training
There has never been a successful person without a coach or mentor. Where do you get your information for your health and fitness? Is it a knowledgeable and experienced source? Certifications can be thrown out the door when compared to experience. We say this because we have both. Most health and fitness information starts in the trenches and works its way to the ink. We know we don’t have all the answers. We know that some concepts we follow today might be refuted tomorrow. If we don’t have the answer to a problem, we will seek and find someone who does rather than just telling someone something we have no idea about. We recommend that all of our clients do their own research so that they feel confident with the knowledge they have.
Knowledge controls how far we can go in life. It creates divisions between people, money and, most importantly, your health. We must always be looking for more knowledge and trying to improve ourselves knowing that we will never get there. It’s the fastest way to reach your next goal. You can never have enough knowledge. Don’t lock yourself into one style of training. Body Blast training is just one style of training. There are an infinite number of training methods. Your training methods should be like water, constantly changing. It is a law of life. Your body will only respond to the laws of life.
