When trust is lacking, members play individually, weakening the team as a whole. Trust is built when team members get to know each other and their abilities and commitment. This grows as the team trains together until the team developed has an almost instinctive feel for each other. In an effective sports team, there must be trust between teammates, trust between coach and players, and individual athletes must have confidence in themselves and their own abilities. If an athlete lacks confidence in themselves or their abilities, this is often expressed as a fear of failure.
Enthusiasm is the cement that unites the team. Most people play sports for the fun and enjoyment of the game. If the game is fun, you’ll be excited to train and play. The whole sports team needs to share an enthusiasm that comes from the desire to be part of the team. Each member of the team must be proud of the team because it creates social cohesion.
Ambition gives direction to the team. Individual team members and the team as a whole must have the ambition to achieve the goal of winning ethically. When a team is united in its pursuit of a common goal or ambition, it has good task cohesion.
Each member must know the goals and ambitions of the team and be committed to achieving them. Individuals need ambition to attend training sessions and focus on improving their skills for the benefit of themselves and the team. Most players aim to be recognized as outstanding players.
